"Old Buddha"

is a song title from Mum's cd, "The Best of the Imperials," given to her by her sister in memory of their good ol' Campus Crusade days at UConn. This song amuses me so much with its unabashed unPCness that I am going to break my self-imposed rule of never blogging about song lyrics to share this one with you.

Well, old Buddha was a man
And I'm sure that he did well,
But I pray for his disciples
Lest they end up in hell,
And I'm sure that old Mohammed
Was sure he knew the way,
But it won't be Hari Krishna
We stand before on judgment day.

Chorus:
But it won't be old Buddha
That's sitting on the throne,
And it won't be old Mohammed
That's calling me home,
And it won't be Hari Krishna
That plays that trumpet tune,
And we're going to see the Son,
Not Reverend Moon!

Well, I don't hate anybody,
So please don't take me wrong,
But there really is a message
In this simple song,
See, there's only one way--Jesus,
If eternal life is your goal,
And meditation of the mind, it won't save your soul.

chorus

Well, you can call yourself a Baptist
And not be born again,
A Presbyterian or a Methodist
And still die in your sin,
You can even be Charismatic,
Shout and dance and jump a pew,
But if you hate your brother,
You won't be of the chosen few!

New Chorus:
'Cause it won't be a Baptist
That's sitting on the throne,
A Presbyterian or a Methodist
That's calling me home,
And it won't be a Charismatic
That plays that trumpet tune,
So let's all just live for Jesus,
'Cause He's coming back real soon!

That Reverend Moon bit gets me every time...

I like those lyrics! I hadn't heard them before, and they made me smile, too.

Hehe! Hurray for unPCness! I've been enjoying a CD from Clyde recently that made me think of that song. I talks about "my God is God" ... "Some trust in their health, some in their wealth... how long can you trust in a flower... whatever you say won't make Him go away... the fact is that my God is God."

I'll have to show it to you someday because those are only part of the lyrics all mixed up from different verses and the chorus, but it made me think of your awesome song.... :)

That is great Bria! I remember feeling like the Rev. Moon was my next-door neighbor since there were so many "Moonies" in Gloucestah!

Thank you for posting the words to this song. I was looking for them so that we might learn the song to sing at our concerts! Might you know Rachel Camuso?

loving your brother and living 4 Jesus won't get you to heaven. it's believing on what He did on your behalf on calvary that will get you to heaven. Eph. 2: 8-9
I still like the song. :)

William's comment is right on the mark. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. Christ died for our sins, He was buried, He rose again and was seen... I believe that "for" my salvation (dumping all else that can never save e.g. water baptism, asking Jesus into my heart, praying a prayer... are of no value).

BTW - I love that song.

I sung that" Old Buddha " song to
my son today. He wanted the lyrics
and is 8 years old. Thanks for having
it available. Now I'm going to try to
find the song to play for him.

My dad use to be in a singing group when I was a child & they sang this song often. It's nice to be able to find the lyrics since what I remember them to be from back then aren't exactly the right ones-lol:)

I heard this song from a tape cassette in the early eighties and it inspired me to sing along to church youth groups and that brought laughter but when i look back this is a song for the now generation.
